Diagnosed with Carpal Tunnel, Former Basket Weaver Finds Meaningful Career Solution as a Home Based Account Executive

January 2006 (Columbus, OH) - Creative problem solving was required to meet the challenges facing Deb Adams. The combination of positive attitudes of Rehabilitation Services Commission (RSC) professionals and home based work solutions presented by Pearl Interactive Network, LLC brought hope to Deb Adams, someone who had some real fears supporting herself and her family.

Deb Adams, an attractive and outgoing divorced mother of two appreciated the opportunity to work in a home-based business. “The timing for associating with Pearl Interactive Network, LLC could not have been better. I had been diagnosed with advanced Carpal Tunnel after 15 years with Longaberger Baskets while at the same time large lay offs had been announced. “Not only do I enjoy working with the Ohio Manufacturers’ Association but I do enjoy the flexibility of working from home, an option that provides an income while at the same time saving time and money by not having to commute” says Adams.

Deb Adams was one of the first people hired by Pearl Interactive Network, LLC to provide home-based sales on the behalf of associations and businesses. Deb was assigned to the Ohio Manufacturer’s Association to sell associate memberships. “While Deb never had formal sales training, her years as a basket weaver provided the attention to detail and discipline, critical keys to success in sales” says Merry Korn, owner of Pearl Interactive Network, LLC.

The RSC played a key role in what has turned into a win-win scenario for Deb Adams, the Ohio Manufacturers’ Association and Peal Interactive Network. Included in RSC’s support were providing job coaching, computer equipment and access to ACT, a sales software system. In addition to outfitting Deb with the office systems, career counselors, Ralph Figaro and Barbra Cartwright arranged for Adams’ training and access too. Dragon, a voice activated software system that minimizes stress on Adams’ wrists and hands.

Deb is one of several independent contractors contracted by Pearl Interactive Network, LLC to provide outbound sales to businesses and associations. “Our hope is to become positioned as a quality, cost effective virtual call center,” says Korn. “It is my hope that businesses who contract with Pearl Interactive Network, LLC want to afford themselves of the advantages of a virtual call center, while at the same time be motivated by the desire to provide employment to RSC consumers” continues Korn.

The Ohio Manufacturers’ Association is thrilled to be partnering with Pearl Interactive on this project. “We have a strategic goal to grow and enhance the level of our memberships in our association,” says Randy Leffler, Managing Director of Communications Services for The Ohio Manufacturers’ Association. “I liked the idea of accomplishing our goals while at the same time providing meaningful work and sustenance to someone who needed home-based employment.”

Key to a consumer’s success with my company”, says Korn, is contracting with consumers who have an eye for detail, are disciplined and have a strong worth ethic.

A positive approach is the common ingredient among all the collaboration that occurs between consumers, RSC professionals and Pearl Interactive.
